GONV questions are in RED
1. Do you believe that the
Constitution is the "supreme law of the land"
and that the Bill of Rights acknowledges our birthrights?
Yes, and I look forward to earning the support
of your organization and its members so that I can give
my oath solemn oath to protect and defend our Constitution.
2. If so, should these rights
be proactively protected from infringement by all levels
of government, including city, county and state?
I'm as strongly supportive of our 2nd Amendment to the Constitution
as I am to our 10th Amendment. Our U.S. Constitution guarantees
an individual's right to own guns - and no other government
body should be allowed to infringe on this important protection.
3. Please give some examples
of gun laws you consider constitutional.
I think our gun rights are inherent in the U.S. Constitution,
and no law is needed to further guarantee what right we
already have as individuals.
4. Please give some examples
of gun laws you consider unconstitutional. I
believe that every law-abiding citizen has an individually
and personally-guaranteed, Constitutional right to gun ownership.
I do not believe laws banning various guns and/or ammunition
to law-abiding citizens are Constitutional ... period.
5. Does the right to bear
arms include the right for any peaceable citizen to carry
them concealed without a permit, as in Vermont? As
a U.S. Senator, I would not support federal legislation
mandating concealed weapons restrictions on various states,
or on individual citizens.
6. Do you believe that Americans
have a right to own, use and carry weapons of military pattern,
and will you use the prestige of elected office to publicly
promote that right? I believe people have
the right to purchase and lawfully use military-style weapons,
but I also believe local jurisdictions and private property
owners should have the right to restrict individuals from
carrying military-style weapons in certain circumstances.
In other words, if property owners on the Las Vegas Strip
see a major tourism deterrent existing by somebody carrying
an M-16 out in the open, they should be able to disallow
such carrying.
7. Do you support or oppose
registration of weapons? Why? I do not believe
law-abiding gun owners should have to register their guns.
The U.S. Constitution gives us a right to own firearms.
The federal government has no business knowing whether our
law-abiding citizens own a gun or not, or what kind, or
how many. The government has more important things to do
than to keep a list of names and addresses of law-abiding
citizens who own guns.
8. Do you support or oppose
licensing requirements to own or carry firearms? Why? Same
answer as number 7.
9. What specific gun laws
will you work to get repealed? I do not
believe the government should make our citizens wait a day,
a week or even longer if and when I wish to purchase a gun.
If a restaurant or gas station can immediately verify whether
I have sufficient funds in my bank account when using a
debit card to make a purchase, we can certainly immediately
verify whether a person has a criminal record or not when
they seek to purchase a weapon.
10. If elected, will you
back your words of support for firearms rights up with consistent
actions? How?
Yes - first by working and listening to the Gun Owners of
Nevada, as well as other citizen gun rights' groups. Further,
as a U.S. Senator, I will ensure that my staff and I monitor
any and all legislation originating in the Senate Judiciary
Committee that would seek to impose any restrictions on
gun possession and/or use. I would also be happy to continue
promoting gun rights for all Nevadans, and all Americans.
